< GROSS DESCRIPTION >
Received fresh is a specimen of anterior resection including a segment of sigmoid colon, measuring 12 cm in length and 6 cm in average circumference.
There is moderate amount of pericolic adipose tissue attached.
It is previously opened by the surgeon and the mucosa shows an irregular ulcerofungating tumor, measuring 2x1.5 cm at sigmoid colon.
The mass involves a part of the bowel and appears to invade the proper muscle.
It is located 7.5 cm and 3 cm apart from the proximal and distal resection margins.
The adjacent mucosa is unremarkable. Several pericolic lymph nodes are dissected and embedded.
